Thecomposition(i.e.biomaterialsofsyntheticornaturalorigin)andstructure(ordesign)ofabiomedicaltextiledictatetheresultingcell-environmentinteractionsofthetextile.Scientistsinvolvedinthefabricationofbiomedicaltextiles,forsuchapplicationsastissueengineeringscaffolds,haveturnedtonanotechnologyandthedevelopmentofnanofibersassolutionsmimickingthegeometryofthesub-microndiameterfibersofthenativeextracellularmatrix(ECM)(diametersontheorderof50to500nm).Electrospinninghasevolvedasaprocessingtechniquethatallowsthefabricationofnano-fibroustextiles.Thisreviewwilldiscusselectrospinningastheprimarytechnologyavailabletocreatebiomedicaltextiles,specificallytissue-engineeringscaffolds,thatarecapableofmimickingnativetissuestructures.
