COPE is a project initiated some years ago by Horst Ibelgaufts, when he hardly dreamed it would blow up to the extent it has. he still carry it out single-handedly.
COPE actually is the electronic updated and revised version of the "Dictionary of Cytokines " that appeared in print in 1995. This book was an updated version of the German "Lexikon Zytokine" published in 1992. Both books have been received quite favourably. They are out of print now and as the publishers were not terribly keen to have a hypertext version compete -as they put it -with an updated print version I decided to go it alone and abandon all ideas of a second edition.
Horst Ibelgaufts really had become intrigued by the possibilities of hypertext and decided to create an electronic version that would allow easy navigation between entries . The electronic version appears to be quite successful also.
