【简介】 The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering was founded in 1981 with 9 graduate students working on their master's degree under the supervision of 4 faculty members. The Ph.D. program was subsequently begun in 1985. Presently, the Institute has developed into a full-fledged size of 80 graduate students, one-third of them in the Ph.D. program, and 16 full-time faculty members.
Researches conducted in the Institute concern basically the processing, the structure, and the properties of various materials such metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and electronic materials. Special emphases have been put on the microsctructural analyses of materials and the correlation between structural characteristics and properties of materials. Fundings of our research projects come from a variety of sources including the National Science Council, the Department of Defence, as well as research institutions and private sectors in the industry. Our research facilities which include advanced processing equipments and state-of-the-art instruments, are highly regarded among universities within the country.
