【简介】 Mr. Namihei Odaira,founder of Hitachi, Ltd., established the Hitachi Central Research Laboratory (HCRL) in April 1942. The motivation was his belief that companies in the private sector should also be investing in research for future technology. Thus it became HCRL's mission to "concentrate on research of new technologies for the coming 10 to 20 years, while pursuing development work for today's business." This decision was highly visionary for its time: in the middle of W.W.II, most of the industrial sector were concerned with more immediate matters and few were able to hold such a long-term perspective.
Hitachi, Ltd. has seven corporate laboratories, whose responsibilities and research fields change in response to market and social needs. The current responsibility of HCRL is to develop frontier technology in the field of information and electronics, with the goal of becoming a leader in emerging commercial technology.
