【简介】 The Institute of Organic Chemistry, one of the oldest chemical institutes in Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, was founded in 1960. From its foundation the Institute has played a central role in Bulgaria as the leading scientific institution in the field of organic chemistry. The international recognition gained by the Institute is supported by the foundation of the Centre of Phytochemistry in 1977, within a joint project of the Bulgarian Government, UNDP and UNESCO for scientific and applied research and training of specialists. Since that time the Institute carries the name Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry (IOCCP). As a recognition of the IOCCP scientific activities can be regarded also the large number of International conferences and schools organised by IOCCP (11th International Symposium of IUPAC on chemistry of natural products, 31st Congress of IUPAC, the 1 st Conference on circular dichroism, etc.).
The successful scientific research and applied activities of the staff in IOCCP is supported by more than 3000 scientific papers, published mainly in international journals, with about 4000 citations in the scientific literature as well as by more than 500 author's certificates and patents. Scientists from IOCCP actively participate in the training process of students and postgraduates in the field of organic chemistry, physical organic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, quantum chemistry, chemistry of natural products at different higher institutions as Sofia University, the Academy of Medicine in Sofia, Plovdiv and Schumen, the University of Plovdiv and the Higher Pedagogical Institute in Schumen, the Southwest University in Blagoevgrad, etc. Five textbooks are authored by IOCCP scientists.
The research topics of IOCCP include fundamental and applied investigations, education and expert activity in the field of synthetic organic chemistry, chemistry of natural products, fuel chemistry, theoretical chemistry, physical organic chemistry, molecular spectroscopy and other instrumental analytical methods. Nowadays there are four main topics of lOCCP's research interest: structure and reactivity of organic compounds, natural products chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, fuel chemistry.
