【简介】 The Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) was established on February 15, 1963 by the USSR Academy of Sciences (now Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS) with the aim to provide an optimal combination of fundamental investigations in the field of condensed matter physics and applied research in material science. The decisive contributions to the formulation of the aims and principles of the Institute were made by the outstanding researcher in the physics of metals Member of RAS Prof. Georgy V. Kurdyumov and also by Member of RAS Prof. Yurii A. Ossipyan, and Corresponding Member of RAS Prof. Cheslav V. Kopezkii.
At the early times of the Institute the founders of the ISSP luckily guessed very promising directions of investigations. Further development of the research confirmed the topicality of the chosen area of activity. Now ISSP has become one of the largest institutes in condensed matter physics and a widely recognized research center in Russia, successfully developing numerous investigations in highly topical areas. Since the creation of the Institute more that two hundred scientific researchers were qualified in ISSP and carried out their investigations in its laboratories. During this time about 60 Doctorate dissertations and about 300 PhD dissertations were made here. Three ISSP researchers were appointed Members and three Corresponding Members of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
