In operation since 1949, the INEEL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energys missions in environment, energy, science and national defense.
The INEEL is operated for the DOE by Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC. Members of the LLC are Bechtel National, Inc., BWX Technologies Co and INRA. INRA is a consortium of eight regional universities, each of which brings unique educational, management, research and scientific assets into collaboration and partnership with the INEEL. The DOE field office is the Idaho Operations Office.
The University of Chicago operates Argonne National Laboratory West and reports to DOEs Chicago Operations Office. Bechtel Bettis, Inc. operates the Naval Reactors Facility that reports to DOEs Pittsburgh Naval Operations Office.
