【简介】 Chemical Engineering, one of the eight departments within the George R. Brown School of Engineering, was first organized in 1921. The department has since grown in strength and vitality and now has 21 faculty members. Five faculty members have their primary appointments in the Bioengineering, Chemistry, and Civil & Environmental Engineering departments.
To provide direction to its growth and to foster an interdisciplinary research environment, Rice has formed several institutes and centers. The department is a major participant in these research endeavors. Several chemical engineering faculty members play active roles in the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST), the Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology (CBEN), the Environmental and Energy Systems Institute (EESI), and the Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering (IBB). The department also has strong interactions with the Computer and Information Technology Institute (CITI).
