【简介】 The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one of the best in the Southeast, with world-class research programs in Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry. It has 26 faculty, 35 postdoctoral and other researchers, 124 graduate students, and 23 staff.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has a two-part mission:
Education: It is their goal to provide the citizens of South Carolina with an education in chemistry and biochemistry, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, that is comparable in quality to any around the nation. Undergraduate students graduating with a B or better grade-point average and all graduate students should expect to be competitive on the world market with their peers.
Research: It is their goal to conduct research that (1) advances scientific thought and knowledge; (2) enhances the educational capability of the University at both the undergraduate and the graduate levels; and (3) generates grant dollars to support the research and sustain the educational and research infrastructure. Research successes benefit the State of South Carolina, both directly and indirectly.
An important ancillary mission of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is its role of serving as a resource for economic development.
