【简介】 Three major new research centers have been established which provide unprecedented research opportunities. The Center for Protein Structure and Function was recently established with a $9.6 million grant from the NIH NCRR which features a 700 MHz NMR, a 9.4 T FT mass spectrometer, and state-of-the-art X-ray crystallographic equipment. The combination of these tools provides researchers with the very best equipment with which to study the structure and dynamics of proteins. The Center for Sensing Technology and Research (CSTAR) features state-of-the-art facilities for fundamental and applied research in new chemical sensor technology. Projects employ the latest spectroscopy, electrochemical, mass spectrometry, synthetic, and microfabrication techniques in pursuit of these goals. The Arkansas-Oklahoma Center for Space and Planetary Sciences features a unique simulation chamber for investigation of space and life in planetary environments. In addition, a strong program in the preparation and use of nanoparticles is growing in the Department, which has served as one of the necessary core programs for a Materials Research Center.
