【简介】
Established in 1818, Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest and most distinguished in the University. The faculty of 40 has a record of excellence in research, teaching, and service, and includes several members of the National Academy of Sciences, a past President of the American Chemical Society, a Priestly Medal recipient, and numerous winners of other national awards in Chemistry. Their research and teaching facilities are currently located in Venable, Kenan, and Morehead Laboratories. A major Science Complex construction project is underway that will bring unprecedented facilities for Science at UNC Chapel Hill over the next decade.

The department is one of the top producers of bachelors degree chemists in the nation, and at present, they have 400 undergraduate majors. The research activities of the department span the breadth of chemistry and attract more than $10 million in external funding annually. Chemistry is also a focus for interdisciplinary efforts on campus in biological sciences and materials sciences. At present, they have 212 graduate students, 43 postdoctoral research associates, and numerous undergraduates that participate in research activities.
