Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at the University of Pennsylvania is the country's oldest continuously operating degree-granting program in Chemical Engineering and since its inception in 1893 it has been at the forefront of defining the frontiers of the field. The department is currently made up of 15 distinguished faculty who maintain research programs in a wide range of areas including, biomolecular engineering, catalysis and reaction engineering, systems engineering, surface and colloid science, among others.
The faculty in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering offer a wide range of research opportunities. Projects are both experimental and theoretical in nature, emphasizing fundamental engineering principles applied to problems at the forefront of the chemical, petroleum, energy, microelectronics, materials, and biotechnology and life science industries.
