The Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston offers a stimulating graduate program to students pursuing a Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree. Strong emphasis is placed on developing a student's ability to initiate and carry out original research projects. The faculty in the department currently includes two Welch Professors and Five Distinguished Research Professors. Several members of faculty have earned national and international awards, such as Dreyfus, Sloan, Fullbright, and Humboldt awards. Departmental teaching and research programs encompass analytical, biochemical, inorganic, materials, medicinal, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry. In addition to these classical areas, there are active programs in chemical physics, solid state materials, and bioinorganic chemistry, along with energy research and development.
