内容简介:
【简介】 Chemistry is one of the largest and liveliest departments in the University. More than one third of the staff has been appointed in the past five years and six new professors have been appointed since 1990. These new staff have brought expertise in important areas of chemistry, teaching and research, enabling them to provide a number of new specialist chemistry degree courses, and maintain a consistently high level of research funding and postgraduate student numbers over many years.
The Department has a wide variety of novel and on-going research programmes in most areas of Chemistry as well as a considerable number of collaborative interdisciplinary projects with colleagues from other disciplines and from industrial organisations. These activities benefit from the recent refurbishment of most of the research space, including the provision of seven new large state-of-the-art laboratories, and from a considerable expansion of the instrumentation infrastructure over the past three years.
The Department's research is organised into the six overlapping but clearly identifiable thematic groups outlined below. Chemistry at the Biological Interface Kinetics, Spectroscopy and Atmospheric Chemistry Materials Chemistry Structural and Computational Chemistry Surface Science and Catalysis Synthesis
