内容简介:
【组织简介】 Materials Information Society (ASM) International began as a small club in Detroit with fewer than 20 members. Today they are the world’s leading society for materials information, with 40,000 members in nearly 100 countries.
ASM established its ASM Heat Treating Conference/Workshop in 1974, and a new annual event, "Metals Week," was held for the first time in 1981. In 1983, the society expanded its technical scope beyond metals alone to include other engineered materials—composites, plastics, ceramics and electronic materials. Also expanded was the geographic scope as a means to gather vital technical information wherever in the world it originates and distribute it wherever it is needed. By 1986, progress had been so substantial toward the stated goal of becoming the world’s society for engineered materials, that the membership approved a new name for the society: ASM International. Metal Progress became Advanced Materials & Processes, and Edward L. Langer succeeded Ray Putnam as Managing Director.
In 1988, the 75th anniversary of the society was celebrated with the World Materials Congress in Chicago – the largest event in ASM history. Nearly 12,000 registrants from 50 countries attended the 334 technical sessions.
By 1989, the Ninth Edition of the Metals Handbook had grown to a 17-volume set comprised of approximately 15,000 pages, 25,000 illustrations and 7,500 tables.
