【组织简介】
IWA was formed in 1999 by the merger of two long established international organizations, IAWQ (International Association on Water Quality) and IWSA (International Water Services Association).

IWA Vision
To be the leading international association for the improvement of water management worldwide in an environmentally sustainable way.

IWA's INTENTION is to promote the integrated management of water as the best strategy for securing safe water supplies and adequate sanitation for communities worldwide. It is also the most practical way of directing technical competence and promoting effective management of both water quality and water quantity.

IWA's COVERAGE includes all aspects of water supply and treatment, wastewater collection, treatment and disposal and overall management of water quality and quantity.

Membership
IWA's MEMBERS come from water and wastewater utilities, academia and research, consultancy, manufacturing industry, suppliers, government departments and agencies of all types. Collectively, members combine considerable strengths, ranging from primary research, through R & D, to practical application in the provision of community water services. They work in every sector - managerial, technical, scientific, financial, strategic, economic, legal, education and training.

There are three grades of IWA membership.
Governing
Over 130 countries are represented in IWA membership and many of them are Governing Members of the Association. They make their views known to IWA through national committees. Issues they wish to raise become topics for wider discussion on future direction and strategy.

Corporate
Membership includes over 750 water utilities, sewerage agencies, contractors and consultants, research organisations, universities, government departments, manufacturers and suppliers. Their corporate members have vast practical experience and knowledge, particularly as privatisation and various forms of business and financial partnerships evolve. For them, the advantage of joining IWA is to belong to a worldwide network of fellow professionals.

Individual
They have almost 9000 individual members at present, representing all strands of work and professions in water management. The broad scientific, engineering and management disciplines are well represented, together with supporting professionals such as legal experts, economists, finance managers and communication specialists.
Individual members enhance their personal careers by contributing to IWA conferences and peer-reviewed publications of high international standing. By joining relevant Specialist Groups they can keep abreast of developments in their field and also help to determine future IWA activities. This network of Groups is part of the Association's grass roots infrastructure which provides the energy and drive behind its programme of activities.

Information Dissemination
IWA SUPPORTS its members in a variety of ways aimed at furthering their professional skills. Publications, conferences, symposia, workshops, electronic information services and access to international networks of specialists on topics of key concern to water professionals are among the services provided. Information is a prime requirement for members and IWA provides a fast and comprehensive service through a number of channels.

Internet
IWA's Home Page will contain a comprehensive description of the Association and its activities, including 'calls for papers' and full conference details.
