The ISME was formed in the summer of 1998 to promote the exchange of scientific information on microbial ecology.
The ISME was incorporated as a nonprofit, tax-exempt scientific and educational organization under the laws of the state of Michigan, September 15, 1998.
The mission of the ISME is to promote the exchange of scientific information on microbial ecology. We do this by organizing meetings, sponsoring publications, promoting education and research, and promoting interaction between scientists.
