An International Journal devoted to the Physics and Chemistry of Biological Phenomena

The journal publishes original letters and papers, mini-reviews, reports from meetings and special issues describing research on biological phenomena in terms of the principles and methods of physics and chemistry. It is receptive to articles which deal with biological molecules and systems and to papers which treat systems serving as models for these. Treatments, phenomenological as well as molecular, of the interactions, structure and biological functions of individual biological macromolecules, and of supramolecular structures, are also within the journals remit.

A feature of the journal is Letters - short articles, no longer than 10 double-spaced manuscript pages (text and figures/tables included).

Publishing original research at the interface of chemistry and biology, Bioorganic Chemistry: An International Journal presents articles where the principles and techniques of organic and physical organic chemistry are used to solve problems of relevance to biology or that describe chemical studies inspired by some biological observation. The emphasis is on chemical or molecular approaches to the solution of important biological problems. Regular articles, review articles, and preliminary communications are included.

Application of kinetic, isotopic, stereochemical, and spectral techniques to the study of enzymes and metabolic pathways
Characterization of the chemistry involved in new enzymatic reactions and metabolic pathways

Description of new chemistry that results from findings in biology
Determination of the molecular basis of hormone and drug action

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry provides an international forum for the publication of full original research papers and critical reviews on molecular interactions in key biological targets such as receptors, channels, enzymes, nucleotides, lipids and saccharides. The aim of the journal is to promote a better understanding at the molecular level of life processes, and living organisms, as well as the interaction of these with chemical agents. A special feature will be that colour illustrations will be reproduced at no charge to the author, provided that the Editor agrees that colour is essential to the information content of the illustration in question.

From 1996, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry is included in Tetrahedron Alert, the first phase of the Tetrahedron Information System. Tetrahedron Alert is the new electronic information service accessible via the Internet, and is a pre-publication service which provides the contents lists and graphical abstracts of current and forthcoming issues for all 5 of the Tetrahedron journals.
