Optimizing the Selective Recognition of Protein Isoforms through Tuning of Nanoparticle Hydrophobicity
We demonstrate that ligand hydrophobicity can be used to increase affnity and selectivity of binding between monolayer-protected cationic gold nanoparticles and β-lactoglobulin protein isoforms containing two amino acid mutations.

Encoding through Host/Guest Assembly: Construction of Multiplexed Fluorescent Beads
A new encoding strategy based on the host/guest structure was developed, where encoding is achieved by combinational use of a set of guest particles with different fluorescence intensity levels at various ratios. This system was proven to be well-defined and highly controllable.

Fabrication of patterned carbon nanotubes with adjustable arrays through controlled mesoscopic dewetting
Here, we report the synthesis of aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) bundles with adjustable arrays by a non-lithographic and low-cost strategy. A polystyrene/ferrocene patterns on silicon (Si) substrate was prepared through controlled mesoscopic dewetting of dilute polystyrene/ferrocene solution. A variety of regular patterns, including ladder, stripe and scale, were synthesized simply by changing th...

Efficient Incorporation of Quantum Dots into Porous Microspheres through a Solvent-Evaporation Approach
Quantum dot (QD)-encoded microspheres play an important role in suspension arrays by acting as supports for various reactions between biomolecules. With regard to QD-encoded microspheres utilized in suspension arrays, three key requirements are controllable size, abundant surface functional groups, and especially excellent fluorescence properties. In this paper, narrowly dispersed poly(styrene-co-...

78. Manipulation of Ordered Nanostructures of Protonated Polyoxometalate through Covalently Bonded Modification
By covalently grafting first- and second-generation dendrons to a polyoxometalate (POM), lamellar or cylindrical nanostructures of the protonated dendron-POM-dendron hybrids have been constructed (see figure), which may open an avenue to the future fabrication of novel solid proton conductors with highly ordered structures.

70. Enhancing Gelation Ability of a Dendritic Gelator through Complexation with a Polyelectrolyte
The gelation ability of a dendritic gelator has been enhanced by its complexation with a polyelectrolyte (see figure). This concept provides a route to construct novel functional or ordered materials by complexation of other low-molecular-mass functional species with polyelectrolytes.A poly(urethane amide) (PUA) dendron with long alkyl chains on its periphery was synthesized and then attached...
