Interfacial compatible poly(ethylene glycol) chains modified cellulose nanosphere as bifunctional reinforcements in green polylatic acid for food packagings
The single enhancement of cellulose nanosphere (CNS) can improve crystallization and mechanical strength of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) by heterogeneous nucleation, even their poor compatibility. However, little attention is paid to the synergistic effects of interfacial interaction, nucleation and plasticizing to enhance the performances of PLA materials. The main objective of this work was to graf...

【02 Journal of Materials Chemistry 】Catalyzing carbonization of poly(L-lactide) by nanosized carbon black combined with Ni2O3 for improving flame retardancy
Catalyzing the carbonization of a polymer itself to form a protective carbonaceous layer has attracted tremendous interest in the flame retardancy of polymers, but the efficiency of this strategy was largely limited to polymers containing heteroatoms within their backbone. In this study, a novel type of combined catalyst, consisting of nanosized carbon black (CB) and Ni2O3, was found to efficientl...

【63 Advanced Materials Interfaces】 Programmable actuation of porous poly(ionic liquid) membranes by aligned carbon nanotubes
A porous composite membrane, combined poly(ionic liquids) with aligned carbon nanotubes that shows anisotropic actuation toward organic solvent is developed. The membrane actuator shows rapid and reversible actuation in response to acetone vapor as well as improved conductivity. These properties allow the composite membrane to be organic solvent‐induced actuator as well as a power switch.

【65 ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces】 Flexible and actuating nanoporous poly(ionic liquids)-paper based hybrid membranes
Porous and flexible actuating materials are important for the development of smart systems. We report here a facile method to prepare scalable, flexible actuating porous membranes based on a poly(ionic liquid)-modified tissue paper. The targeted membrane property profile was based on synergy of the gradient porous structure of a poly(ionic liquid) network and flexibility of a tissue paper. The gra...

【43 RSC Advances】 Study of the effect of nanosized carbon black on flammability and mechanical properties of poly(butylene succinate)
Biodegradable poly(butylene succinate)/nanosized carbon black (PBS/CB) nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding to investigate the effect of CB on flammability and mechanical properties of PBS. In the nanocomposites, CB displayed some positive effect on improving the flame retardancy of PBS, mainly on the decrease of peak of heat release rate, the increase of limited oxygen index value, an...

【20 RSC Advances】 Effect of polystyrene long branch chains on melt behavior and foaming performance of poly(vinyl chloride)/graphene nanocomposites
Several poly(vinyl chloride)-g-polystyrene graft copolymers (PVC-g-PS) with well defined molecular structures were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) from the structural defects of PVC. The effects of PS branch chains on the shear and extensional rheology as well as foaming properties were investigated. Compared to linear PVC, the introduction of PS branches results in i...

【33 Polymer Degradation and Stability】 Synergistic effect of fumed silica with Ni2O3 on improving flame retardancy of poly(lactic acid)
A novel combined catalyst of fumed silica (SiO2) with Ni2O3 was demonstrated to be more efficient than SiO2 or Ni2O3 alone in enhancing the char yield of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and improving its char layer structure, which greatly enhanced the flame retardancy of PLA. The results of field-emission scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform...

018. Bulk modulus of poly(ethylene oxide) simulated using the systematically coarse-grained model
In this work, the bulk modulus of the poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) has been simulated using the dynamical stepwise compression procedure, for which the coarse-grained (CG) potentials are systematically parameterized by the multiscale scheme. It is demonstrated that the simulated bulk modulus and its temperature dependence compare well with the empirically calculated results, validating the CG pote...

【European Polymer Journal】Preparation and mechanical properties of strong and tough poly (vinyl alcohol)-polypeptide double-network hydrogels
Abstract:
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-polypeptide double-network hydrogels with various ionic liquid (IL)-based polypeptides were prepared by a freezing/thawing method. Tensile tests revealed that the stiffness and toughness of the PVA hydrogels were significantly improved (e.g., 6.3 times the Young’s modulus and 5.8 times the work of extension) by incorporation of IL-based polypeptides. An...

[New J. Chem.] Fried egg-like Au mesostructures grown on poly(4-vinylpyridine) brushes grafted graphene oxide
Control growth of noble metal micro/nanostructures on graphene films is of crucial importance for
high-quality surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra. In this paper, we described in situ fabrication of different Au structures on poly(4-vinylpyridine)(P4VP) brushes-grafted graphene oxide(GO). The proposed strategy is based on the use of HAuCl4-loaded P4VP brushes grown on GO as a reaction...
