Novel Ag3PO4/Bi2WO6/MWCNTs nanocomposites were prepared via a facile

hydrothermal method and an in-situ precipitation without the addition of any spherical

template. It exhibited excellent catalytic activity under visible light irradiation.

Compared to pure Ag3PO4, Bi2WO6, Bi2WO6/MWCNTs and Ag3PO4/Bi2WO6, the

ternary Ag3PO4/Bi2WO6/MWCNTs nanocomposites showed the best photocatalytic

performance due to the narrow band gap level, strong light absorbance in visible

region, large specific surface area and high charge separation efficiency. Being used to

degrade norfloxacin antibiotics (NOR) under visible light irradiation, it also showed

perfect photocatalytic activity. The degradation products of NOR were identified by

LC-MS/MS analysis, and a possible photodegradation mechanism of NOR was

discussed. The results indicated that NOR can be degraded via three pathways, the

piperazinyl ring was the most reactive site for hydroxyl radical attack, followed by

stepwise oxidation and further ring-opening. Overall, the composites would be

promising material for the removal of contaminants in water.
