A versatile, simple, and cheap way was developed to fabricate autonomous polymer multilayer nanorockets. The speed of the nanorocket motion can be tuned through changing the fuel concentration, and the motion direction can be controlled by employing an external magnetic field. Interestingly, these as-assembled nanorockets are able to be served as both autonomous motor and smart cargo, performing drug loading, targeted transportation and remote controlled release in the vicinity of cells and tissues in an organism. We hope that such self-propelling nanorockets could provide a novel concept to develop rapidly delivering drug carriers in future.
