Announcement of the ACS PMSE Symposium on Electrospinning and Nanofibers in Honor of Professor Darrell Reneker''s 85th Birthday (Dallas, USA; March 16-20, 2014)

Dear
Colleague,

We
would like to make you aware of the ACS PMSE Symposium on Electrospinning and
Nanofibers in Honor of Professor Darrell Reneker’s 85th Birthday
which will be held in Dallas from March 16-20, 2014.  The venue is set to
honor the contributions of Professor Reneker to the field of electrospinning,
which he re-energized in the early 1990s and to which he continues to make
valuable contributions to the present day.  We are planning a 2.5 day
symposium organized into five half-day sessions with the following themes:

Session 1: The technique/process of
electrospinning (including rheological studies, mathematical models, and
modified electrospinning techniques such as coaxial and triaxial
electrospinning and melt electrospinning)

Session 2: Morphological and structural
characterization of electrospun nanofibers

Session 3: Applications of electrospun
nanofibers, Part 1 (biomedical applications, composites, and others)

Session 4: Applications of electrospun
nanofibers, Part 2 (sensors, electronics, optics, and energy-related applications
such as solar cells, fuel cells, batteries, and supercapacitors)

Session 5: Applications of electrospun
nanofibers, Part 3 (water/air filtration, bioseparations, semi-permeable
membranes, and adsorption)

If
you would like to contribute an oral or poster presentation, you will have to
submit an abstract (a PMSE Preprint is no longer required!) by October 7
through the PACS Abstract Submission System.  For more information please
consult: http://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/membership-and-networks/td/abstractsubmission.html

Please
also be aware that you may want to encourage your graduate students to attend
and make them aware that there are two programs that may be of interest:

PMSE Graduate Student Research Award (formerly Ford
Travel Grant):
http://pmse.sites.acs.org/fordtravelaward.htm

Women Chemists Committee Travel Grant: http://womenchemists.sites.acs.org/

In
closing, we hope that you will consider contributing to the PMSE Symposium on
Electrospinning and Nanofibers being organized to honor Professor Darrell
Reneker’s lifelong contributions to this important field of science and
engineering.

Sincerely,

John
