博士生凌翠翠撰写的论文“Fabrication of carbon nanotube/graphene core/shell nanostructures on SiO2 substrates using organic solvents: A molecular dynamics study”发表在chinese science bulletin(科学通报)上(3030页)并入选其封面文章。

Graphene, a single atomic layer of graphite, has fascinated the scientific community to such an extent since it was discovered by Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov in 2004 that they were awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics. Graphene can be viewed as a two-dimensional sheet of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice. It possesses extraordinary properties including high tensile strength, current carrying capacity, heat transmission, carrier mobility, and tunable band gap, which can be varied by changing its shape and chirality. These superior properties mean graphene shows great potential in various applications. By rolling up a single graphene sheet with a selected diameter and chirality, another interesting carbon nanomaterial called a carbon nanoscroll (CNS) can be produced. CNSs share some of the advantageous mechanical and electronic properties exhibited by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene but also exhibit novel features because of their unique structure. The fabrication of CNSs with a CNT/graphene core/shell structure on substrates can produce different types of heterojunction material including semiconductor/semiconductor, semiconductor/metal and metal/metal junctions, nanoactuators and nanocircuit interconnectors. Such materials are promising candidates for various applications including nanomechanical devices and nanocircuits (see the article by LING CuiCui et al. on page 3030).
