A linear organic diamide derivative (EBH) with eco-friendliness, acting as a nucleating agent (NA) was incorporated into the biodegradable poly(ethylene adipate) (PEA) polyester to prepare a kind of new biocompatible composite. The crystallization temperature (Tc) and crystallization rate increased significantly, and crystallization time (t) reduced markedly by the DSC measurement for the PEA upon incorporation of the EBH. The hydrogen bond interaction exists between the PEA and EBH, resulting in the uniform dispersion of the EBH in the PEA matrix. The in-situ FTIR test also revealed that the PEA shows the higher crystallization rate during the isothermal crystallization in the presence of the EBH. The adjustment rate of the PEA –C=O group in the presence of the EBH is lower than that of –C-O-C and –CH2 group, also caused by the hydrogen bond interaction between the PEA and EBH. The TG analysis suggested that the EBH enhances the thermal degradation temperature of the PEA. Enzymatic degradation of the PEA slowed down upon incorporation of the EBH. Mechanisms on the nucleation, increased thermal stability and decreased enzymatic degradation rate of the PEA in the presence of the EBH were also proposed and discussed.
