Abioinspiredicephobicsurface featuringmosquito-eye-like
micronanostructures(IPMM)isdesignedthroughcandlesootself-assembly
on amicrospine array surface. The IPMMexhibits remarkable super
hydrophobicityincoldtemperatures,withlowadhesionforcesof~25.4μN
atalowtemperatureof?5°Candimpressiveliquidrepellency.TheIPMM
withasurface temperatureof?5°Ciscapableof consecutivelyrepelling
impacting droplets at 7.6 °C 15 times. IPMM displays excellent
photothermal efficiency, e.g., a rapiddefrostingrateof~2.03kg·m?2·h?1,
and deicing performance, with a deicing rate of ~13.32 kg·m?2·h?1,
respectively.Theoutdoor testsof IPMMat?9.6°Cfurtherconfirmsuch
aneffectivedesnowanddeicecapabilities.ThesnowcoveringtheIPMM
completelymeltedwithin~522s,andtheincompletelycoverediceonthe
IPMMwasabletocompletelyslideoffinaveryshortperiodof time(~54
s).Theicelayer(8mmthick)that fullycoverstheIPMMiscompletelyremovedwithin1359sunderoutdoorconditionsdespite
potential interference fromexternal coldwinds.Thisstudyprovidesaninsight intodesignof innovativesurfacesormaterials for
deicingtasks,whichcanbeextendedintotherealms, e.g., aircraftwings, cable,windblade, etc.
