Based on the success of a series of International Symposia on Engineering Plastics held in China: EP’2001 Beijing (September 2001), EP’2004 Lanzhou (August 2004), and EP’2007 Urumqi (August 2007). Now we are organizing the fourth one: EP’2009 to be held in Dalian, Liaoning Province, August 23-26, 2009. Its topics will be on polymeric materials including thermoplastics and thermosets, although the term of “engineering plastics” appears in the title for keeping its series. All the contributions will cover almost all the related important disciplines along the path from monomer through polymer to product. It will supply a multi-disciplinary forum for polymer chemists, physicists and engineers to discuss further development of polymeric materials face to face. The organizing committee cordially welcomes all of you, polymer scientists, engineers and students involving in polymer synthesis, physics, processing and materials, to attend this symposium, and believes your participation will be a great contribution to EP’2009.

FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS 
Contributions of papers for the program of EP2009 in any related topics are being sought. Both
oral and poster presentations carry equivalent scientific status in the program. To contribute a 
paper, submit the title in the space provided on the Registration Form enclosed in this Brochure. 
Except the invited lectures, mostly other contributions will be presented as posters.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM INFORMATION
Language :The official language of the symposium is English. 

Preprints 
The preprints will be prepared including the summaries of invited lectures and contributed papers 
as well. One or two page abstract is required to present a paper. Each abstract, including tables, 
diagrams and references, should be typed on A4 paper, typing area must not exceed 16 cm of width 
and 22 cm of length, using single spacing and Times New Roman font with 10 point size. The title 
(bold, 12-point size, upper case), authors, affiliation and e-mail address (10-point size) should be
centered. The name of the presenting author should be underlined. References should be indicated 
within the text and appear at the end of the abstract. All the tables and figures should be incorporated 
in the body of the abstract and should have individual captions. Participants are invited to submit their 
abstracts not later than April 15, 2009. The abstracts for the preprints should be in electronic format 
transferred by e-mail to ep2009@iccas.ac.cn as attached files so as to reach the Secretariat. Please 
notice that the documents should be readable with Microsoft Word on Windows system.

Presentation 
The time allowed for invited lecture and oral presentation including discussion will be 30 minutes 
and 20 minutes, respectively. Lecture venue will be equipped with a lap-top computer and a multi-
media digital projector.

Poster 
A 900 mm width x 1200 mm height board will be allowed for each poster presentation.

The registration fee for participants covers full scientific activities, all the printed materials

GENERAL INFORMATION

Passport and Visa 
A valid passport and visa for visiting China are required. Upon receiving your Visa Application Form, 
the organizer will send you an official invitation letter with which you can apply for an entry visa 
at the Chinese Embassy or the nearest Consulate General.

DaLian 
Dalian, compared to other ancient capital cities in China such as Beijing and Xi’an, is a young city 
with only a 100-year history. Situated at the tip of Chinas Liaodong Peninsula, it is a trading and 
financial center in northeastern Asia with a powerful capacity either through the sea, land or air, so 
that it has gained the name ‘the Pearl of Northern China? The impression Dalian gives to the world is 
of a city of lawns, squares, fountains and gardens. Dalian Rubber & Plastics Machinery Co. celebrated 
its centennial anniversary in 2007 Dalian Petrochemical Corporation, PetroChina Com. Ltd. will be the 
Largest Oil Refining Base in China and Department of Polymer Materials Science, Dalian University of 
Technology is developed from Specialty of Synthetic Rubber started in early 1950’s.

Travel to and from Dalian 
There are direct flights from Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Seoul, Vladivostok, and other domestic 
cities to Dalian. Indirect flights from Munich, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Vancouver, Los Angeles, 
Melbourne, Sydney, Bangkok, Singapore, Kula Lump, Delhi, and other cities to Dalian have a stop in 
Shanghai or Beijing.

Insurance 
The organizers can not be responsible for personal accidents or material damage, which may occur to the 
participants during the conference and tours. All the participants are advised to make their own arrang-
ements in respect to health and travel insurance before commencing their journey to the conference.

Climate 
In Dalian the summer period from July to early September has an average temperature of around 20°C (68°F) 
and in the hottest month of August thousands of people come to the southern seashore in the city to enjoy 
the sunshine, the sea and exciting water sports. Bring T-shirts, shorts, skirts, sandals, sunglasses, hats 
and suntan oil with you. The summer is also the rainy period in Dalian, however most rain falls at night. 
You will still need to take an umbrella or rainwear with you in the evenings.

Currency Exchange 
In China, only RMB is used. However, exchange centers can be found at airports, most hotels and large 
shopping centers. The rate of exchange is about US$1.00 = RMB6.9 Yuan recently. When exchange money, 
please keep care your receipt by which you can change any remaining RMB back to foreign currency when 
you leaving China. Visa, Master, American Express, Diners Club, JCB and other credit cards are accepted 
in many department stores and hotels. But it might be difficult to draw cash with credit cards. The 
Bank of China and most hotels can cash traveler checks issued by any foreign bank or financial insti-
tution. Participants will need to show their passport and pay a three-percent commission. Travelers 
checks signed over to a third party can not be cashed in China, but can be presented to collection 
through the Bank of China.

Departure air tickets (both international and domestic) should be reconfirmed 72 hours in advance by 
calling the related airline office.
