The phase separation dynamics of polymer blends containing Janus particles with various architectures and particle-matrix interactions
Janus nanoparticles have been successfully used in polymer blends as compatibilizers in experimental andsimulated investigations1,2. Due to the amphiphilic nature, they are strongly adsorbed at interfaces betweenimmiscible domains to reduce much ...

One-pot synthesis of amphiphilic Janus gold nanoparticles with Dpenicillamine and benzyl mercaptan ligands by toluene/water emulsion reaction
Amphiphilic Janus Au NPs were synthesized by emulsion reaction with presence of D-penicillamine (D-PA) and benzyl mercaptan (BM) molecules at water and toluene phases, respectively. TEM and XRD characterizations indicate that the reaction product is composed of Au nanocrystals in size of 2.9 nm. XPS, FTIR, Raman and 1H NMR analyses suggest that the capping ligands on the Au NPs are D-PA and BM, ...

121.Unraveling the Self-Assembly of Heterocluster Janus Dumbbells into Hybrid Cubosomes with Internal Double-Diamond Structure
Cubosomes are bicontinuous cubic-phase particles generated by amphiphile self-assembly with bicontinuous cubic phases, which creates an intricate network of interconnected nanochannels that endow these materials with special functions for advanced applications. On the other
hand, clusters are an attractive class of molecules that exhibit intriguing functions and properties that differ from th...

117.Creating Quasi Two-Dimensional Cluster-Assembled Materials through Self-Assembly of a Janus Polyoxometalate-Silsesquioxane Co-Cluster
Clusters are an important class of nanoscale molecules or superatoms that exhibit an amazing diversity in structure, chemical composition, shape, and functionality. Assembling two types of clusters is creating emerging cluster-assembled materials (CAMs). In this paper, we report an effective approach to produce quasi two-dimensional (2D) CAMs of two types of spherelike clusters, polyhedral oligo...

[Chem. Commun.] A lotus-inspired janus hybrid film enabled by interfacial self-assembly and in situ asymmetric modification
A lotus leaf inspired Janus hybrid film was exquisitely fabricated through a self-assembly process at the air/water interface with subsequent in situ asymmetric modification at the oil/water interface. The interfacial asymmetric decoration strategy thus provides a novel pathway for achieving a 2D Janus hybrid film with asymmetric wettability and functionality.

Excellent Fog-Droplets Collector via Integrative Janus Membrane and Conical Spine with Micro/Nanostructures
Inspired by a cactus spine and trichomes integrated fog collection system, a strategy is presented to design a micro/nanostructured conical spine and Janus membrane integrative system (MNCS+JM). In this strategy, the surface of conical spine can be covered with rough micro and nanostructure (MNCS), so that the tiny fog-droplets can be captured, coalesced, and transported. Janus membrane (JM) wit...

One-pot synthesis of ultrafine amphiphilic Janus gold nanoparticles by toluene/water emulsion reaction
Ultrafine amphiphilic Janus gold nanoparticles (Au NPs, d z 2.1 nm) were synthesized in batch by the emulsion reaction between chlorotriphenylphosphine gold(I) in toluene and tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride in alkaline solution, followed with phase inversion by adding excess toluene, resulting in a yielding rate of up to 93.3%. FT-IR, Raman, TG and XPS analyses indicate that the emul...

Multiple-Sized Amphiphilic Janus Gold Nanoparticles by Ligand Exchange at Toluene/Water Interface
Amphiphilic Janus gold nanoparticles (GNPs) are prospected to encapsulate drug molecules in cancer therapy and to serve as heterogeneous catalysts at oil/water interfaces, where Janus GNPs with different sizes are required. In this work, multiple-sized precursor GNPs were synthesized by seeded growth method protected with tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine oxide (THPO) ligand molecule, and a ligand ex...

Solvents induce phase separation for fabrication of Janus hybrid nanoparticles: A dissipative particle dynamics simulation
Polyacrylic acid-gold (PAA-Au) Janus nanoparticles (JNPs) show a broad application prospect in many fields. However, PAA-Au JNPs are difficult to prepare and characterize due to their specific structures and properties. In this work, the self-assembly of PAA-Au NPs was investigated by dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulation method. It was found that PAA-Au NPs had a structure transition wit...

Tuning Metamaterials Nanostructure of Janus Gold Nanoparticle Film for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering
Large-area metamaterial nanostructures of a Janus gold nanoparticle (AuNP) film decorated with thiol-terminated polymers have been fabricated and tuned at an oil/water interface by a facile and innovative process. The results show that AuNPs had been arrayed with ultrasmall gaps between neighboring particles laminated with polymer which is called a Janus film. This film exhibits a sensitive proper...
