Professor Li-Ming Zhang is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University. He received his Ph.D. degree in June of 1994 in chemical engineering from Southwest Petroleum University (China). He transferred to polymer chemistry and physics when he entered the Polymer Science Institute of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU, China) as a postdoctoral fellow from July of 1994 to June of 1996. He joined the faculty of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in SYSU as a lecturer in July of 1996 and was then promoted to an associate professor in November of 1996 and a full professor in June of 2002. From January of 2001 to July of 2002, he worked as a research support specialist in the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Brookhaven National Laboratory (X27C) (Professor Benjamin Chu and Professor Benjamin S. Hsiao’s groups, USA). From May of 2011 to May of 2012, he worked as a visiting professor in Stanford University (Professor Richard N. Zare’s group, USA). His research interests encompass biomaterials, hydrogels, nanoparticles, biopolymers, as well as functional nanocomposites. He has been in charge of over 50 research projects, and published over 340 refereed scientific papers as well as held over 70 Chinese patents.
