Dr. Li-Ming ZHNAG is a full professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University (China). In June of 1994, he received his Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Professor Shuquan REN in the chemical engineering at the Southwest Petroleum University (China). He transferred to polymer chemistry and physics when he entered the Institute of Polymer Science at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University as a postdoctoral fellow (Mentor: Professor Zhuomei LI ) from July of 1994 to June of 1996. He joined the faculty in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen University as a lecturer in July of 1996, and was then promoted to an associate professor in November of 1996 as well as a full professor in June of 2002. He was the Vice Director (01/1998-12/2000, 01/2005-12/2012) and Director (01/2013-12/2016) of Polymer Research Institute at the Sun Yat-sen University. From January of 2001 to July of 2002, he worked as a research support specialist in the Department of Chemistry at the Stony Brook University and at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (X27C) (Mentors: Distinguished Professor Benjamin CHU and Distinguished Professor Benjamin S. HSIAO` s groups, USA). From May of 2011 to May of 2012, he worked as a visiting professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Stanford University (Mentor: Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor Richard N. ZARE` s group, USA).

The research interests of Dr. Li-Ming ZHNAG encompass polysaccharides, biopolymers, biomaterials, hydrogels, nanoparticles and functional nanocomposites. Current areas of focus include the chemical and physical modification, structure-property relationship, functionalization and effective utilization of natural polymers. He has been in charge of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Foundation for University Key Teacher by the Ministry of Education, the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province in China, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province in China, the Doctoral Research Program of Education Ministry in China, the Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars and so on. As cooperative units, he was also responsible for the National 863 Program and Key Project of Clinical Discipline in Medical Institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health in China. As core members, he mainly undertook the 973 major project research of the Ministry of Science and Technology in China.

Dr. Li-Ming ZHNAG has published 373 refereed scientific papers (including more than 227 refereed scientific papers in SCI journals), nearly 160 scientific conferences, as well as 4 international book chapters. He also has 88 issued and pending China Patents and U.S. Patent (including 67 issued China Patents). He serves as the guest editors, associate editors and editorial board members of several academic journals. As the first accomplisher, he has won three second-prizes and one third-prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award (Natural Science) in China. As the main accomplisher, he has won one second-prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award (Scientific and Technological Progress) in China. To date, Dr. Li-Ming ZHNAG has educated 25 Ph.D. students, 37 M.Sc students, 7 postdoctoral associates and a visiting scholar. He has also been responsible for guiding dozens of undergraduates who completed their graduation theses or received scientific research training. The original 3 students of this research group have been supported as “National Program for Support of Top-notch Young Professionals in China" 、“Youth Foundation for University Key Teacher by the Ministry of Education in China" and awarded as “National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in China”. From March of 2016 to now, he has joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University.
