Isophoronediisocyanatewasreactedwithbis(3-(1-methoxy-2-hydroxypropoxy)propyl)terminatedpolysiloxanes(PMTS)toinputcyanategroupinpolysiloxanesmolecularchains.Polypropyleneanddimethylolpropanicacidwerethenaddedtogetpolysiloxanemodifiedpolyurethane(PSU)prepolymer.DihydroxylglycerylmethacrylatewasthenusedascouplingagenttoreactwithPSUprepolymerstointroducevinylgroupswithobjectivetoconductgraft-polymerizationwithacrylicsinasubsequentstep,andsothattogetpolysiloxaneacrylicmodifiedpolyurethane(PSU-AC)latexes.Theresultsshowedthattheparticlesize,surfacetensionandviscosityofthePSU-AClatexeswerekeptconstantwithincreaseinPMTScontent,whilecontactangleofPSU-ACfilmwithwaterincreased.WhenPMTSwaslessthan10%(basedonPSU),PSU-AClosstanδexhibitedtwopeakswithvaryingtemperature.WhenPMTScontentwashigherthan10%,thelosstanδexhibitedjustonepeak,butitwasmuchwiderthanthetwoobservedwithPMTSbelow10%.WithoutPMTS,acrylicspolyurethanefilmbecamewhiteafteritwasimmergedinwaterfor11h,andthiswhiteningeffectwasobservedupon36himmersioninwaterwhen2.5%and5.0%ofPMTSwereincorporatedinPSU-AC.WhilewhenPMTSwasmorethan7.5%,PSU-ACfilmshowednovisiblechangeafterimmersioninwaterfor15days.
