Ultra-highmolecularweightpolyethylene(UHMWPE)fibershaveexcellentmechanicalproperties,butthefibers’surfaceadhesivepropertiesareverypoor,whichgreatlylimitstheirapplicationinthecompositematerials.ThisarticlemainlystudiedtheeffectofcoronadischargeplasmatreatmentonthesurfaceadhesivepropertiesofUHMWPEfibers.Theeffectsoftreatingtime,powerandatmosphereonthesurfaceadhesiveandmechanicalpropertiesofUHMWPEfiberswerestudiedandtheoptimumtreatingconditionwasgot.Theresultsshowedsomeoxygen-basedgroupswereintroducedintothesurfaceofUHMWPEfibersandsomegroovesoccurredonthefibersurfaceaftercoronadischargeplasmatreatment.Argonplasmatreatmentproducedmoresevereerodingonsurfacethanunderairplasmatreatment.Theinterfacialshearstrength(IFSS)betweentreatedfiberandPUmatrixincreasedwithincreasingoftreatingtimeanddecreasedagainafteracertaintimetreated.Theoptimumtreatingpowerandtreatingtimeforargonandairplasmatreatmentwereboth5Wand60seconds,theIFSSbetweentreatedfiberandPUmatrixincreasedbyover100%withoutobviousdamageontheirmechanicalproperties.
