Applicationofmullitewaslimitedduetopoorsinteringability,porosityandlessdense.Theadditionofsinteringaidsistoimprovemicrostructure,densificationandperformancesofmullite.Inthisstudy,Mullitesolandboehmitesolwerepreparedbysol-gelmethodfromanaqueoussolutionofaluminumnitrate(AN),aluminumisopropoxide(AIP)andtetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS),andboehmitewasusedassinteringaidtoimprovesinteringabilityofmullite.DriedandheatedmullitesoladdedboehmitesolwascharacterizedbyDSC-TG,Fourierinfraredspectroscopic,anddensitytesting.Moreamorphousstructurewasformedwhichisconducivetodensificationformullite,anddensitytestingprovedthat.Theboehmitecontent(5wt%)yieldedmaximumdensityof98%theoreticaldensity(3.01g/cm3).
