Inthispaper,athermaloxidationtreatmentat500oCand700oCfor1htechniquewasusedformodificationofTi-6Al-4Valloy.Thecontactangleandthemicrohardnessofthemodifiedalloysweretested.ThefrictionandwearpropertiesofUHMWPErubbingagainstthemodifiedalloysunderlubricationofdistilledwaterwereinvestigatedonapin-on-disktribometer.Theresultsshowthat,thewettabilityandthemicrohardnessofthealloysurfaceswereincreasedobviouslyafterthermaloxidation-treated.Itshowthatthethermaloxidation-treatedcansignificantlyenhancethewearresistanceofTi6Al4Valloy,thefrictioncoefficientdecreasednearly8timesandthewearresistanceofUHMWPEincreasedabout40timesthantheuntreatedTi6Al4Valloy,andboththefrictioncoefficientandthewearresistanceofUHMWPEarequiteneartothenitrogenandoxygenionimplantedtechnique,whichcostsmuch.ThewearmechanismofthermaloxidationtreatedTi6Al4ValloyagainstUHMWPEismainlyslightfatiguewear.
