BOPPfilmspreparedwithalaboratoryfilmstretcherKAROIVwerestudiedbySmall-AngleX-rayScattering(SAXS)andDifferentialScanningCalorimetry(DSC).ThestudyshowsthatthecrystalsareorientedinbothMachineDirection(MD)andTransverseDirection(TD)direction.ThecrystalsaremoreorientedinTDdirectionthanMDdirection,duetosubsequentTDstretchingafterinitialstretchinginMD.ThelongperiodinTDdirectionisalsolargerthaninMDdirection.Abroadmeltingpeak(orshoulder)near155oCandasharpmeltingpeakat168oCareobservedfortheBOPPfilm.Thebroadmeltingpeakaround155oCisverylikelycontributedbythecrystalsformedduringMDstretchingandsurvivedthesubsequentTDstretching.Thesurvivedcrystalsarepresumablyfragmented.Infact,abroaderSAXSscatteringpeakisalsoobservedinMDthaninTDdirectionduetothefragmentation.Thesharpmeltingpeakat168oCcanbeattributedtothemeltingofthecrystalsformedduringTDstretchingatahighertemperature,whichusuallyleadstothickerlamellaeandalargerlongperiod.Infact,asignificantlylargerlongperiodisobservedforcrystallamellaeformedduringTDstretching.TheshrinkageofBOPPfilmathightemperatureisveryimportantforsomeofitsapplications.Therefore,theBOPPfilmsannealedatdifferenttemperatureswerealsostudiedwithSAXStoinvestigatetheannealingeffectonthelamellarpackingandorientation.Thepresentstudyshowsthatsignificantchangesinstructureareobservedabove130oC.Thelongperiodincreasessignificantlywithincreaseinannealingtemperature.ThelamellaebecomemoreorientedinTDdirection,possiblyduetothemeltingofthefragmentedcrystals(withlowermeltingpoint)preferablyorientedinMDdirection.
