Toimprovethecompatibilityofheterogeneousblendsdifferentmethodsforreactivein-situcompatibilizationhavebeencompared:theformationofblock-co-polymers(i),graft-copolymers(ii),andtheformationofmixedstars(iii).Polypropylene/polystyrene(PP/PS)blendshavebeenusedasmodel.Correspondingreactivepolymerswerepreparedbydifferentmethods.Theformationofgraft-co-polymersseemstobemoreefficientthantheblock-copolymerformation,probablycausedbythehigheramountofreactivesites.Theformationofmixedstarsduetotheadditionofhyper-branchedpolymers(HBP)resultsininterestingphase-in-phasemorphologies.Usingcrosslinkablepolyfunctionalcouplingagentsthepossibilitytocreatereactiveinterphasesinheterogeneousblendsbasedonreactivepolyamide-12andPSorPSandpoly(methylmethacrylate)couldbeproven.
