Thewettabilityofsolidsurfacesisaveryimportantproperty,andisgovernedbyboththechemicalcompositionandgeometricalmicrostructureofthesurface.Currently,super-hydrophobicsurfaceswithwaterCAhigherthan150arearousingmuchinterestbecausetheywillbringgreatconvenienceindailylifeaswellasinmanyindustrialprocesses.Variousphenomena,suchassnowsticking,contaminationoroxidation,andcurrentconduction,areexpectedtobeinhibitedonsuchasurface.Conventionally,super-hydrophobicsurfaceshavebeenproducedmainlyintwoways.Oneistocreatearoughstructureonahydrophobicsurface,andtheotheristomodifyaroughsurfacebymaterialswithlowsurfacefreeenergy.WhilethewaterCAhascommonlybeenusedasacriterionfortheevaluationofhydrophobicityofasolidsurface,thisaloneisinsufficienttoassesstheslidingpropertiesofwaterdropletsonthesurface.Afullysuper-hydrophobicsurfaceshouldexhibitbothhighCAandlowslidingangle.
