Novelblendfilmsofsoyproteinisolate(SPI)andpoly(vinylalcohol)(PVA)compatibilizedbyglycerolwerefabricatedbypreparingasolution,andthencastingitonaTeflon-coatedmetalsheet.Mechanical,biodegradationandwatervaporpermeabilityoftheblendpropertiesweresystematicallyinvestigatedwithvariousmethods.SEManalysisresultsreleasethattheSPI/PVA/glycerolfilmdegradesataslowerratethanpureSPI.Themechanicaltestshowedthatthestressatyieldpoint,stressatbreakpointandYoung’smodulusweredecreasedandpercentageelongationatyieldpointandpercentageelongationatbreakpointandofSPI/PVAwereincreasedobviouslythanpureSPIfilms.Theblendplasticsweresoftenedandbecamesemi-rigidcontributingtotheplasticizationofglycerolandthecrystallinepartionofPVAwasdestroyedbyglycerol.WatervaporpermeabilityofSPI/PVA/glycerolshowedtheminimumatthecomponentofSPI/PVA(100/35)compatibilizedby3.5%ofglycerol.
