Sulphonate-containingpolymerparticleshavesomespecialpropertiesbecauseoftheirstabilitytowardssevereenvironment,andsomeresearchershavefocusedtheirinterestsonthiskindoffunctionalparticles.However,Itisnoteasytoperformtheemulsioncopolymerizationofstyrene(St)andsodiumsulphonatestyrene(NaSS)becauseoftheirgreatdifferenceinpolarity.Inthiswork,seededemulsioncopolymerizationofNaSSandacrosslinkerontothesoap-freeseedP(St-methacrylicacid(MAA))particleswascarriedoutinthepresenceofsurfactanttoincreasesulphonatecontent,andnarrowdispersecrosslinkedP(St-MAA-NaSS)microspherewithhighlysulphonatecontentcanbeprepared.Itwasfoundthatwhenthecrosslinkeramountwas2mol%tothetotalmonomers,themolratioofsulphonategroupsinthecopolymerreached11.7%. |
