Aseriesofpolyacrylicacid(PPA)hydrogeltrappedwithpolysodium-p-styrenesulfonate(PSS)werepreparedandcharacteriedthenbyFTIRanalysis.TheswellingbehaviorofPAAhydrogelinalkalineenvironmentwasimprovedduetotheadditiongofPSS.Astheionicconcentrationinsolutionincreased.theswellingratioofPAA/PSSshowedanuo-and-downtrendwithamaxinumswellingratioatPH=9ca.However,tswellingrateofPAAwasdecreasedafteraddingPSS.Atheoreticalmodelbasedonthemulti-interactionsbetweenPAAhydrogelnetworkandtappedPSSchainsincludingelectrostaticrepulsiveinteraction,entangilinginteraction,ionicintensityinteractionandosmaticpressurewaspropossedtoexplaintheabovementionedwxperimentalphenomena.
