Anewtypeoforganicallysolublepolyaniline(PANI)waspreparedbyemulsionpolymerizationusingsodiumalcoholethersulphate(AES)asdopantandammoniumpersulfate(APS)asoxidant.ItisfoundthatAEScanactasverygoodplasticizingandprotonatingagentsforPANI,anddopingwascarriedoutbytheinsitudopingemulsionpolymerizationroute.Theas–preparedproductissolubleinvarioussolvents,includingwater,ethanol,toluene,anddlethyleneglycoldibutylether.Thespectralandelectricalpropertiesarecomparedwiththoseofthepolyanilinepreparedbyanaqueouspolymerizationpathwayusinghydrochloricacidasproticacid.Further,conductiveflexiblecompositefilmsoftheprotonatedPANIwithpoly(vinylalcohol)(PVA)werealsopreparedandstudiedfortheirconductivityandrelatedproperties.PercolationthresholdisoccurringatverylowweightpercentageofPANIandamaximumconductivityvalueof0.035Ω1cm1wasobtainedforthePANI/PVAcompositefilmwithPANIcontentof7wt.%.
