Acontinuouscoaxialatmosphericpressuredielectricbarrierdischargeplasmasystem(PLA-PLA)wasusedtomodifythesurfaceofPAN-basedcarbonfibers.Theinfluenceofplasmaparametersonthesurfaceofcarbonfiberswasinvestigatedwithrespecttogasflowratioandtreatmenttime.Thesurfacemorphologiesofcarbonfibersbefore/afterplasmaprocessingweredeterminedbyscanningelectronmicroscope(SEM),andthesurfacechemicalcompositionofthefabricsampleswasanalyzedbyFouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy(FT-IR)andX-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPS).Thecontactangleandtensilestrengthofthecarbonfiberswerealsotestedtoinvestigatetheirwettabilityandmechanicalproperties.Theresultsindicatedthatalargeamountofreactivefunctionalgroupswereintroducedintothecarbonfiberssurfaceaftertheoxygenplasmatreatment.Inaddition,thetensilestrengthofthetreatedfibersdroppedlittle.
