Shortcarbonfibers(SCF)filledhigh-densitypolyethylene(HDPE)conductivecompositeswerestudiedintermsoftime-dependentpiezoresistivebehaviors.Thetime-dependentchangeofresistanceunderconstantstressorstrainwasfoundtobethesuccessionofthepreviouspressure-dependentpiezoresistance.Dependingonthefillervolumefractionandtheleveloftheconstantstressorstrain,resistancecreepandresistancerelaxationwithdifferentdirectionswereobserved.AnempiricalexpressionsimilartotheBurgersequationcouldbeappliedtofitthedataforboththeresistancecreepandtheresistancerelaxation.Thefittedrelaxationtimeasafunctionofpressureshowedthatthereexisttwocompetingprocessescontrollingthepiezoresistivebehavioranditstimedependence.Mechanicalcreepandstressrelaxationofthecompositeswerealsostudied,andacomparisonwiththetime-dependentresistanceimpliedthatthereisaconductingpercolationnetworkwhichisattributedtothephysicalcontactsbetweenSCFandamechanicalnetworkformedbythemolecularentanglementorphysicalcross-linkingofthepolymermatrixandtheinteractionbetweenthefillerandthematrix.Itisbelievedthatthetwonetworksdominatetheelectricalandthemechanicalbehaviors,respectively.
