TheScationandNanionco-dopedTiO2pillaredmontmorillonitenanocompositephotocatalysthasbeensynthesized,inwhichScationssubstituteforsomeofthelatticetitaniumatomsandNanionsreplacesomeofthelatticeoxygenatoms.ThecompositephotocatalystshowsstrongabsorptionforUVandvisiblelightandhighactivitiesfordegradationofavolatilematter,formaldehydegas.ThestatesoftheSandNatomsincorporatedintotheTiO2particlesaredeterminedtobemainlyS4+andN2-respectivelyfromX-rayphotoelectronspectra(XPS).TheproofsfromXRDpatternsandTEMpicturesdemonstratethatthemeandiameterofTiO2particlesislessthan1nm.Theabsorptionspectrum(rangefrom250~700nm)ofTiO2suspensionrevealsstrongabsorbanceinUVandvisiblelightregions,andapparently,showsdoubleabsorptionpeaksatnearly335and475nmrespectively.Havingbeenorganicallymodified,thecompositephotocatalystishomogeneouslyblendedwithakindofplasticpowderinaplastickneader.Then,thismixture,so-calledmatrixissprayedontoaplasticproductsurfacebymeansofaspecialmethod.Irradiatedbyvisiblelight,thedegradationtestconcludesthattheplasticproductsupportedcompositephotocatalystcaneffectivelydegradethevolatileformaldehydegas.
