Inthispaper,wesynthesizedmain-chain(MLCI)andside-chainliquidcrystallineionomers(SLCI)containingsulfonateacid,whichwereusedintheblendsofpolypropylene(PP)andpolybutyleneterephthalate(PBT)bymelt-mixing,respectively.Thethermalbehavior,morphologicalstructure,andmechanicalpropertiesoftheblendswereinvestigatedbydifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC),FTIRimaginganalysis,andtensilemeasurement.TheDSCresultsindicatedthatsomespecificinteractionwasoccurredbetweenPBT(andPP)andSLCI(orMLCI),whichenhancedcompatibilizationbetweenPBTandthePPcomponentintheblends.FTIRimagineanalysisdisplayedthattheadditionofSLCI(orMLCI)leadtofinerandbetterdispersedofPBTpolymerintheblends.TheutilizationofSLCI(orMLCI)resultedinastrongerinterfacialadhesionbetweenPPandPBTpolymersandimprovedthemechanicalperformancesofblends.Throughcomparison,themechanicalpropertyofblendswithSLCIhadbetterthanwithMLCI,whichshowedthecompatibilityofblendswithSLCIimprovedmorethanwithMLCI.
