Atomicforcemicroscope(AFM)hasenabledustovisualizeasmallworldconsistingofatomsandmolecules.Weareabletovisualizeasinglepolymerchain,asmanyresearchershavealreadyreported.Inpractice,asinglepolymerchainlookedlikeapieceofstring.1)Therecentstudyhasrevealedthedynamicmovementsofsuchstrings.2)Furthermore,dozensofresearchershaveplacedtheirattentionontheexpandedcapabilityofAFMassinglemoleculeforcespectroscopy(SMFS).Withthistechnology,therelationshipbetweenforceanddeformationofasinglemoleculesandwichedbetweenasubstrateandanAFMprobehasbeenmeasured.Atechnique“nano-fishing”introducedinthispapercomesunderthiscategory.Now,wehaveobtainedanovelmethodforexperimentallyverifyingthestatisticalmechanicsofasinglepolymerchain,whichisindeedthebasisofpolymerphysics.Asinthecaseofstress-strain(S-S)curvesofrubber,wecannowinvestigatesuchcurvesforsinglepolymerchains.
