Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV)isafamilyofbacteriallyderivedpolyesters.However,itstackinessofmonofilamentandconfinedwindowofprocessingtemperaturehavelimitedtheprocessingandapplicationofPHBVfibers.Inthispaper,thepreparationandpropertiesofblendedfibers,consistingofapoly(3-Hydroxybutyrate-co-40%-3-hydroxyvalerate)andahyperbranchedpolyesteramide(HBPEA)wereinvestigated.WithHBPEA,thetackinessofthematrixwasdecreasedsignificantly.Thetorqueoftheblendwastestedbythetwin-screwextruder.ThetrendsuggestedthehigherthecontentsofHBPEA,thelowertheviscosityofthematrix.TheFTIRspectrashowedthepresenceofintermolecularhydrogenbond(inter-H-bond)betweenPHBVandHBPEA.ThePHBV/HBPEAcompositefibersweretriedtobespunwithdifferentcontentsofHBPEAfrom1wt%to10wt%.TheoptimalspinningconditionofthePHBV/HBPEAsystemwasselectedwith3wt%HBPEAatthedrawingratioof10.Themechanicalpropertiesofthecompositefiberswereevaluatedthen.ComparedtothePHBVfibers,thebreakingstrengthofthedrawnfibersreached93.76Mpa,improvedby14times.
