Forthefirsttime,wehavedevelopedanovelsolventofcellulose,namely7wt%NaOH12wt%ureaaqueoussolutionpre-cooledto-12oC.CellulosecouldbedissolvedrapidlyintheNaOH/ureaaqueoussolutionwithin2min.Wehaveproposedthatthecellulosedissolutionat-12oCarisesasaresultofafastdynamicself-assemblyprocessamongsolventsmallmolecules(NaOH,ureaandwater)andthecellulosemacromoleculesthroughthehydrogen-bondedarrangementintheaqueoussystematlowtemperature.Fromthecellulosedope,wepreparedsuccessfullyhigh-qualitycellulosemulti-filamentfibersviaapilotmachine,andproventhatthecellulosefibershadacircularcross-sectionalshape(similartoLyocell®)andagoodstructureaswellasmechanicalproperties.Wepreparedmagneticnanocompositefibersbyintroducinginsitusynthesizedironoxide(Fe2O3)nanoparticlesintothewetcellulosefibersspunviaasmall-scalepilotmachine.Moreover,fiber-likeFe2O3macroporousnanomaterialswereobtainedbytheremovalofcellulosematrixbycalcinationsofFe2O3nanoparticlecellulosefibers.Wealsofabricatednovelmagneticcellulosemicrospheres(MRCS)byinsitusynthesiseofFe3O4nanoparticlesintothecelluloseporeasareactionmicro-chamber.TheMRCSmicrospheresexhibitedsensitivelymagnetinducedtransference,extremelysmallhysteresisloop,aswellasgoodadsorptionandreleasecapabilitiesforbovineserumalbumin(BSA).Moreover,wesuccessfullypreparednoveltransparent,fluorescentandlongafter-glowphotoluminescentcellulosefilmsviaagreenprocess,leadingtothepromisingapplication.Thephotoluminescentcellulosefilmscouldabsorblightforseveralminutesandthenemitsavisiblelightformorethan10hinthedark.Wefabricatedsuccessfullyhydrogelshavingstrongfluorescencefromcelluloseandquantumdots(CdSe/ZnSQDs)inNaOH/ureaaqueoussystemviaamildchemicalcross-linkingprocess.Thisworkprovidedanewpathwayfortheconstructingofnovelfunctionalmaterialsvia“Green”process.
