Abstract:Argonplasmawasusedtouniformsurfaceetchofpolyethyleneterephthalate(PET)fiberunderatmosphericenvironment.Aninvestigationoftheactivespeciesinplasmaaswellastheireffectsonplasma-polymerinterfacesduringthetreatmentprocesshadbeenindentified.Scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM)andscanningprobemicroscope(SPM)wereusedtomeasuretheetchingeffectsofplasmaonpolymersurface.Inaddition,thestatesparticulatesinargonplasmawereassessedbyopticalemissionspectroscopy(OES)andthecharacteristicofdischargevoltageandcurrentwererecordedbyoscillograph.Resultsshowedthatoxygenandnitrogeninplasmawereintheirexcited-stateandtheoxygenandnitrogenionsenhancedtheetchingofpolymersurface.Atthesametime,theseactivespecies(oxygenandnitrogenradicalandion)alsoledtothesurfacemodificationofpolymersurface.Etchingeffectsseemedtoactslowlyandbetime-related.Moreover,thegasflowrateandthedischargepowerhadaremarkableinfluenceontheetchingpatternaswellastheextentofetching.Thisexperimentmayhelptoaffordbetterprocesscontrolandsubstantiatemechanismsforplasmamodificationofhighperformancepolymers.
