Anovelpolyvinylalcohol(PVA)/1-ethyl-3-methylimidazoliumhydroxide([Bmim]OH)electrolytemembranehasbeenpreparedforapplicationinalkalinedirectmethanolfuelcells(DMFCs).Theseanionexchangemembranewithhighconductivitieshasbeenpreparedbydoping[Bmim]OHandtherebyhydroxylgroupsintothepolymer.ThecharacteristicpropertiesofthePVA/[Bmim]OHmembranehavebeenstudiedbyX-raydiffraction(XRD),thermogravimetricanalysis(TGA),ACimpedanceandcyclicvoltammetry.TheresultsrevealedthatPVA/[Bmim]OHmembraneexhibitedsuperiorthermalstability.Theionicconductivityofthesemembranewasfoundtobeoftheorderof10-2S/cmatambienttemperature.
