Nitrogenandironco-dopedTiO2waspreparedbyasol-gelmethod.TheresultsofphotocatalyticdegradationofMethyleneblue(MB)demonstratethattheco-dopedTiO2catalystexhibitshighphotocatalyticactivity,andthedegradationratiosofMBare98.17%and70.58%underultraviolet(UV)lightirradiationfor80minandvisiblelightirradiationfor80min,respectively.X-raydiffractionresultindicatesthattheco-dopedTiO2withthegrainsizeof10.84nmisinconformitywithananataseandrutilemixedphaseTiO2form.ThehigherUV–Visiblelightphotocatalyticactivityofco-dopedTiO2isattributedtothepartialNatomsoccupyingO-atomsitesintheTiO2toformTi-Nbonds,whichlowersthebandgapandcausedtheabsorptionedgeofco-dopedTiO2shiftingtothelower-energyregion.Theaboveeffectsarebeneficialforimprovingthephotocatalysisofco-dopedTiO2underUVlightandvisibleirradiation.
